Here's to the next 125 years ...
One of the most iconic names in golf celebrates 125 years in the game with a move that would have baffled their 19th century founders.
In 1895, when the Auchterlonie family started making golf clubs in St Andrews, little could they have realised what the next 125 years would bring.
Today, Auchterlonies is one of the longest standing and largest high street golf retailers in the UK. Bobby Millar, general manager, says: "We are proud to remain a family business and, as we enter 2020, have invested in the next chapter of the Auchterlonie story."
The famous golf store – on Golf Place in St Andrews – has launched https://auchterlonies.com/ to meet the demands of the company's increasingly global customer base. Bobby explains: "We know from those who visit us in store - as well as from our social media engagement - that our customers are spread right the way around the world ... from Australia to Argentina, from the United States of America to China - and almost every country in between." He adds: "Our online investment is designed to support those who love Auchterlonies and St Andrews but who - for whatever reason - can't easily visit us in the home of golf."
For more than a century, Auchterlonies has been a 'must visit' for any golfer coming to the 'Auld Grey Toun'. Bobby says: "The store is a magnet for those who not only want to understand golf's history but who also want to own a piece of the game ... be it from the past, the present or the future. Opening an online store builds on 125 years of outstanding customer service to extend our offering with improved convenience and unique content."
