January 23, 2019 - Druskininkai, Lithuania. One of the biggest winter sport events in the Baltic states, LTeam Olympic winter festival, attracts huge crowds of exotic sports lovers who are willing to take part in unusual yet spectacular extreme winter sport activities.
This traditional winter sport feast, which is held in Druskininkai on the first weekend of February, provides an excellent opportunity to try out exotic sports in the Snow Arena - one of Europe's largest indoor skiing slopes - and other venues around town.
Apart from downhill skiing, snowboard slalom competitions and family hockey tournament, the festival organizers invite you to give a test to your skills in such exotic competitions as the international Bavarian curling (also known as an ice stock sport) tournament or the Snow Kayak race.
This increasingly popular winter sport was invented by passionate kayakers who decided to engage their boats, originally designed for whitewater kayaking, in such daredevil activities as descending snow slopes. In the year 2002, snow kayaking acquired the official status when the first race was held in the Austrian resort of Lienz. The first world championship was held in the same resort five years later and Austrian kayaker Peter Draxl became the first world champion in snow kayaking.
On Februrary 3rd everybody is welcome to take part in Snow Kayak race, which will be held at the Snow Arena in Druskininkai as a part of LTeam Olympic winter festival. The dedicated 640 meter (2100 ft) long slalom track, prepared just for this competition, will lead to the finish in an ice-water pool.
Another incredible adventure awaits the participants and the spectators of LTeam Olympic winter festival outside the Snow Arena. LTeam Winter Challenge, which will be held on the 2nd of February, is the only official winter multisport competition in Lithuania featuring courses both for professional athletes and beginners.
Participants of this competition will be prepared to face the challenges in mountain biking, running, orienteering, as well as the ropes courses, paddling, skating, logic puzzles and physical obstacles. Participants who choose to take part in the FUN challenge, which features a course adjusted for the beginners, will have to cover a distance of approximately 20 kilometers (12,4 miles) in 2 to 4 hours, while the PRO course participants will cross almost 40 kilometers (24,8 miles) in 4-5 hours.
Those athletes – along with their support teams – will be able to regain their strength and enjoy the proper rest at a number of Druskininkai medical SPAs and Aqua Park, the biggest aqua park in the region offering a wide variety of saunas and treatments for ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation.
Druskininkai is surrounded by massive pine tree forests, and is known for its clean air, mineral water and curative mud - all the ingredients for wellness needed during any sports events.
LTeam Olympic winter festival will be held in Druskininkai on February 1-3.
