Audi AG: Strong sales figures in China, United Kingdom and United States
* Worldwide around 108,500 cars delivered in October – up 23.9 percent
* Figures for China up 61.7 percent last month
* Sales chief Schwarzenbauer: “Good prospects for Western Europe, helped by high order intake for Audi Q3”
A strong month in Audi’s largest export markets China, the United Kingdom and the United States resulted in a 23.9 percent overall increase in the company’s vehicle deliveries, to around 108,500 units. The total sales for the year to date, January to October, rose to around 1,081,700 vehicles, up 18 percent. Thus, Audi should already reach its yearly sales record of 1,092,411 cars set in 2010 in the first days of November.
Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG: “Sales in the United States have developed very positively across the entire model range. In Western Europe our new models are accelerating growth: there are good prospects for Audi in the coming months in the region, helped for example by the high order intake for the new Audi Q3.”
10,225 U.S. customers chose a new car from Audi in October, up 25.8 percent compared to the same month of last year. For the year as a whole, U.S. sales increased by 16.5 percent to 95,206 cars. Mexico (+50.2 percent) and South American markets such as Brazil (+43.9 percent) and Argentina (+51.4 percent) also contributed to the brand’s growth in the region in October.
A particularly strong sales performance in the United Kingdom drove growth in Western Europe. With sales of 7,601 units, AUDI AG delivered 30.9 percent more cars last month than in October 2010. From January through October, sales increased to 101,382 units, 14.3 percent up on the prior-year figure. Particularly high growth rates were also recorded in October by Audi dealers in Switzerland (2,397 units; 91.3 percent) and Austria (1,682 units; +38.1 percent). Russia led the positive trend in Eastern Europe with 1,875 units and growth of 33.0 percent.
Thanks to a growth rate of 61.7 percent, last October turned out to be a new record month for Audi in China – due in good part to the continued success of the long-wheelbase A6. Audi handed over 27,729 cars to Chinese customers in the past month; the delivery figures from January through October thus rose to 253,739 units, 32.1 percent up on the prior-year period. The brand’s growth in Asia was not restricted to China, with all individual markets of the Asia-Pacific region achieving significant increases in October. In Japan, Audi’s sales went up by 22.0 percent to around 17,749 units from January through October; in October itself they more than doubled – by 104.9 percent to 1,850 units.
